Terms of Service
Effective date: October 1, 2026
The short version
- toaudio is a beta in early validation, with a free plan and a paid plan, Pro. Things may change or stop.
- We read public posts on X, and public web articles, aloud in a synthetic voice. A reading isn't the author's voice and doesn't mean they endorse it.
- Requests on X, and our replies, are public. Web form requests aren't: we email you the link. Anyone with a listening link can listen.
- You're responsible for what you ask us to read. Only request public content you're allowed to share.
- The words belong to their authors. Authors can have a reading removed. See Removal requests.
- Listen and share links for personal use; don't redistribute the audio or abuse the Service.
- Pro is a subscription that renews until you cancel. You can cancel at any time and keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for. See Paid plans for refunds.
- The beta comes with no warranties. Our liability is limited to what you've paid us, which is nothing if you only use the free plan.
This summary helps you find your way. It isn't part of the Terms; the full text below applies.
These Terms are an agreement between you and Zheyuan Ou, doing business as toaudio ("we", "us"). They cover your use of toaudio: the website at toaudio.app, the listening pages at app.toaudio.app and the @toaudioapp account on X (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, whether you request audio, open a listening link, join the waitlist or subscribe to Pro, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. What toaudio is
toaudio reads posts and articles aloud. There are two ways to ask for a reading. You can mention @toaudioapp under a post on X, and we reply on X with a link to a listening page. Or, where our website offers it, you can submit a link to a public web article and your email address through our web form, and we email you the link.
The Service is a beta, run as a trial while we validate it. It has a free plan and a paid plan, Pro (see Paid plans). Features are limited and may change, and we may pause or stop the Service at any time. We don't promise a turnaround time, and we don't promise to accept every request. Features described as "planned" or "proposed" may never launch.
2. Who can use toaudio
You must be at least 13 years old, or older if the law where you live requires it. If you use the Service through X, you must also be allowed to use X under X's own rules. If you use the Service for an organization, you confirm that you're authorized to accept these Terms on its behalf.
3. Requests
- Public content only. Only request posts that are publicly visible on X, or web articles that anyone can read without signing in or paying.
- Requests on X are public. Your mention and our reply both appear publicly on X, and our reply includes your username.
- Web form requests. We don't post these anywhere. We email the listening link to the address you give us, so use an address that's yours. Don't submit someone else's email address.
- You're responsible for your requests. Only ask us to read content you're entitled to request: public content that you're allowed to share. If a request breaks these Terms or someone else's rights, we may remove the reading and decline your future requests.
- Allowance. Free use and Pro each come with the allowance shown on our Pricing page, counted per X account or per email address. We may change the free allowance. We won't reduce the Pro allowance during a period you've already paid for. We may also accept requests beyond an allowance at our discretion.
- We may decline. We may decline a request or stop processing it for any reason. For example: you've reached your allowance, the post or article has been taken down, it isn't in English, it's behind a paywall or a sign-in, it's a PDF, we can't retrieve it, or we consider the content unsuitable.
- Readings are machine-generated. Text-to-speech software produces the audio. It may mispronounce words. It may skip images, links, formatting or embedded media, or read only part of a long post or article. For web articles, we read the main text of the page, so a reading may leave out things like image captions, sidebars or comments. A reading is not a verified copy of the original. The voice is synthetic. It isn't the author's voice, and a reading doesn't mean the author made, approved or endorsed it.
4. Listening links
- Anyone with a listening link can open it and listen, without an account. Treat it like any other shareable link.
- Listening pages ask search engines not to index them, but we can't control where a link gets shared.
- A link may stop working at any time, for example after a takedown or if we stop the Service. Don't rely on toaudio as an archive.
- We don't automatically remove a reading when the original post or article is deleted or made private. Its author can ask us to (see Removal requests).
- If we stop the Service, we'll try to announce it on @toaudioapp before links stop working.
5. Content and ownership
- The words belong to their author. We claim no ownership of the posts and articles we read. Every listening page links to the original.
- toaudio belongs to us. That includes the software, the website, the design, the name and the logo.
- For personal listening. You may listen to readings and share listening links. Don't download, re-upload, sell or otherwise redistribute the audio, and don't use it to train AI models, unless you have permission from the author and from us.
- Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them without owing you anything.
6. Removal requests
Three kinds of people can ask us to remove a reading: the author of the post or article; someone who holds rights in its content; and someone it is about who says it reveals their private information or is unlawful. You don't need to use toaudio or pay for anything to make a request.
- How: message @toaudioapp on X, or email team@toaudio.app. Include a link to the post, the article or the listening page.
- Verification: we may ask you to confirm that you're the author, for example by messaging us from the account that published the post. For a web article, we may ask you to write from an email address at the article's website, or to add a short note to the original page.
- What we do: we disable every listening link for that post or article, delete the audio and the text we stored for it, and decline future requests to read it. For web articles, we treat common variations of the same address, such as with or without "www." or tracking tags, as the same article. We aim to act within 24 hours. We review requests of the third kind case by case. If someone else asked us to remove your own post or article, you can ask us to lift the block.
- Copyright notices from other rights holders: please include your name and contact details, the work you believe is infringed, links to the listening pages concerned, your physical or electronic signature, a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized, and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorized to act for them. Knowingly false notices can make the sender liable.
7. Acceptable use
Don't:
- use the Service to harass, threaten or target anyone, or to spread content that is illegal;
- request a reading of a post or article whose author has asked us not to read it;
- request content you know was published without the rights holder's permission, or that reveals someone's private information;
- present a reading as the author's own voice or recording, or edit or splice readings to misrepresent what the author said;
- send automated or bulk requests, use several accounts or email addresses to get around your allowance, submit someone else's email address, or impersonate someone;
- scrape, crawl or bulk-download listening pages or audio;
- probe, overload or interfere with the Service, or try to access parts of it that aren't public.
We may decline requests from, or stop serving, anyone who breaks these rules, including accounts that repeatedly ask for readings we later remove after a copyright notice.
8. Waitlist
If you join the waitlist, we'll use your email address to tell you about launches such as Pro and podcast playlists. You can leave the list at any time. Our Privacy Policy explains how. Every email we send will include a way to unsubscribe.
9. Paid plans
We sell one paid plan, toaudio Pro, as a monthly or a yearly subscription. We take payment only through the checkout pages linked from our Pricing page, never anywhere else, including through messages on X. Prices and features marked "planned" or "proposed" are not offers.
- What you're buying. toaudio Pro for as long as your subscription is active. What Pro includes is listed on our Pricing page.
- What's available now and what's coming. Today, Pro gives you the larger monthly allowance, better voices, priority handling and requesting several articles at once. Custom podcast playlists and playlist sharing will be available by October 30, 2026. If they aren't, tell us and we'll refund everything you've paid.
- How we recognize you. We match your requests to your subscription by the email address you used at checkout and by the X username you gave there. If you request on X and didn't give one, email it to team@toaudio.app from that address.
- Price. US$6.99 a month or US$59.99 a year, in US dollars, charged through Stripe, our payment processor, when you subscribe and then at the start of each new month or year. We don't add taxes or other charges.
- Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically until you cancel. Between 30 and 60 days before a yearly subscription renews, we'll email you the renewal date and how to cancel.
- Cancelling. You can cancel at any time, at no charge, on the subscription page that Stripe hosts for us. Open it from the "Manage subscription" link in your receipt emails or on our Pricing page, or email team@toaudio.app. After you cancel, you keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for, and you aren't charged again.
- Refunds. A yearly subscription gets a full refund if you ask within 14 days of paying. We don't refund part of a month. If you cancel a yearly subscription after it has renewed, we refund the unused part of that year. Email team@toaudio.app from the address you used at checkout, and we'll refund you within 7 days.
- Who can subscribe. You must be old enough to enter into a contract where you live, which is 18 or 19 in most places.
- Who you're buying from. Zheyuan Ou, doing business as toaudio, a sole proprietor in British Columbia, Canada.
- Where we sell. Pro isn't available to residents of Quebec. If you live in Quebec and subscribed, tell us and we'll refund you in full.
- A copy for your records. After each payment, Stripe emails you an invoice that includes a summary of these terms.
- Your rights. Nothing in this section limits cancellation or refund rights you have under consumer protection law.
10. Third-party services
Requests on X depend on X, and the whole Service depends on other providers, such as our hosting, email and payment providers. Requests made with our web form don't go through X. toaudio is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by X Corp. X's own terms govern your use of X. We aren't responsible for third-party services, including changes on X that stop us from reading a post. X could restrict how we access posts at any time. If that happens, parts of the Service may stop working without notice.
11. Disclaimers
The Service is a beta. It is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. A reading carries its author's words, not our views.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. If you only use the free plan, that amount is zero. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
13. Suspension and ending
You can stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or end your access, or discontinue the Service, at any time. If we end a Pro subscription or discontinue the Service, and it isn't because you broke these Terms, we'll refund the unused part of what you've paid. The parts of these Terms on content and ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law and general terms continue to apply after that.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We'll post the new version on this page with a new effective date. For material changes, we'll also give notice on this page and on @toaudioapp at least 14 days before they take effect, unless a change is needed for legal reasons or only adds something new. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms.
